In 2024, Sögestraße will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the bronze sculpture "Shepherd with Pigs" . This well-known bronze statue by the Bremen sculptor Peter Lehmann has been standing in the shopping street since 1974 thanks to the local merchants. It is a reminder of the times when bakers and beer farmers worked here and drove pigs through the streets to the market square.

The popular photo motif will be honored in the anniversary year with various events, including an exhibition in autumn 2024.

Paint, remember and win: What doesn't sound immediately understandable to foreign guests is a clear indication to the people of Bremen that the meeting is taking place at the bronze sculpture “Shepherd with Pigs” on Sögestrasse. In the anniversary year there are activities to discover along Sögestrasse:

 

Kick-off event for the Easter campaign
Small chocolate pigs are distributed by the Easter Bunny on Sögestrasse for the anniversary year.Colored pencils, paper and other painting utensils will also be available for young artists at the start of the “We'll meet at the pigs” painting competition.

 

  March 22nd and 23rd, 2024, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m

Young artists up to the age of 17 have the opportunity to submit creative works of art on the subject of swineherds and Sögestrasse. The best works will be awarded prizes and have the chance to be exhibited in the CityGalerie in autumn.
